Brooke Rafter joined Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH) this summer as a Social Media Strategy and Communications Fellow through the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Fellowships program.

Rafter graduated from UNH in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Sustainability. This was her second year participating in the Sustainability Fellowships program.

During her fellowship, Rafter managed CPCNH’s LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and X accounts and evaluated opportunities to strengthen the organization’s social media presence. After reviewing analytics across the individual platforms, she recommended adopting Hootsuite to centralize social media management and better compare performance across channels.

She also developed a Social Media Implementation Plan and Social Media Strategy Plan to help guide CPCNH’s future social media efforts. Her recommendations addressed consistent branding, workflows, platform-specific content, campaign planning, performance measurement and opportunities to engage more actively with other organizations and community partners.

A major part of Rafter’s summer was developing Powering Local Solutions, a pilot campaign highlighting Community Power at the local level. She traveled to Bristol, Peterborough, Enfield, Warner and Webster to interview Member Representatives about their communities’ goals and values.

“I was able to meet new people and see the towns that are involved with CPCNH,” Rafter said. “I also got to see Poverty Plains.”

The campaign gave Rafter experience with the full production process, from developing interview questions and coordinating filming to photography and post-production. Along the way, she learned to use a professional camera and Adobe Creative Suite for the first time.

“This summer, I learned a lot working with CPCNH,” Rafter said. “I learned about the benefits of Community Power, learned completely new skills and learned how to start a campaign from drafting my questions to post-production.”

Rafter said the experience also taught her the importance of flexibility, particularly when coordinating participants and filming schedules across several communities.

“I want to thank Nick Gosling, CPCNH Communications Manager, and the UNH Sustainability program for the opportunity this summer!” she added.
