Powering Peterborough with
Affordable Renewable Energy
Peterborough Community Power is a way to purchase more renewable electric power that is more renewable and/or less expensive than power offered by regulated utilities.
In 2022, the Peterborough voters adopted a Community Power Plan at Town Meeting.
We are now putting that plan to action to create short- and long-term benefits for our energy users.

How Community Power Works
Peterborough Community Power combines the buying power of residents and businesses so that together we can achieve competitively priced electricity.
-
In advance of the launch of Peterborough Community Power, all customers within the Town have been mailed a notice (containing information about their electricity rates and energy supply choice options).
-
The Town also hosted a public information meeting to answer questions about the program on April 5, 2023.
-
All customers have at least until April 27, 2023 — when Peterborough Community Power launches! — to consider whether to opt-out, opt-in, or opt-up to choose a cleaner power option:
-
Most customers currently on Eversource's default supply service do not have to take any action to benefit from our lower electricity rate: unless they choose to opt-out of the program, they will begin taking service from Peterborough Community Power on the date Eversource reads their meter between late April-May 2023
-
Select customer groups are not eligible for automatic enrollment (listed below) but may choose to opt-in.
-
After the launch of Peterborough Community Power, customers are always free to choose to buy power from Eversource, or from another market option, by submitting notice in advance of their next utility meter read date.
By accessing the power market, we can control price volatility and choose which energy sources to buy or build.

Source
Peterborough Community Power purchases electricity from the sources you choose.
Delivery
Eversource deliver the electricity using the same power line infrastructure and billing mechanisms.
Community
Peterborough Energy Customers save money and have the power to choose new rates and products, and how much electricity comes from renewable sources.
Electricity markets are changing. Customers are generating their own power and adopting new technologies that add value to our energy portfolio.
Peterborough Community Power will harness that value, and empower customers to create a more innovative and cost-effective energy future.

Electricity Supply Choices
Energy users in Peterborough can select which energy choice works best for them.
Use the portal or call us at 1-866-603-POWR to choose your power option, or to opt out, and have your Eversource account number handy so we can easily process your selection.

Mid-sized Commercial Customers
The table below shows our Peterborough Community Power monthly variable rates for Primary General Service customers (Class GV) enrolled into Granite Plus compared to Eversource's supply rate in ¢ per kWh:

Mid-sized commercial customers (Class GV) can also opt-down to Granite Basic to save 0.4¢ / kWh, or pay an additional 0.7¢ / kWh or 2.9¢ / kWh to opt-up to Clean 50 or Clean 100.
Note that variable rates shown for Eversource are charged by the utility based on the amount of electricity you use within each calendar month, whereas variable rates for Community Power are charged starting on the date within each month when Eversource reads your electricity meter.
For example, you would be charged the Community Power rate shown for “July” for usage during the period between when Eversource reads your meter in July until the utility closes your billing cycle by reading your meter again about one month later. Refer to our FAQs for more details.
Exceptions to Automatic Enrollment
Certain customer groups will NOT be automatically enrolled in Peterborough Community Power, including:
-
Customers buying electricity from a third-party supplier.
-
Net Metered customers.
-
Large General Service, Backup Service, and Commercial & Industrial electric vehicle charging station customers (Class LG, B, and EV-2).
If one of these exceptions applies to you, contact us to discuss your options or visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
